"Beyond Blue" by artist Géraldine Auret

The hotel and Square Art are delighted to present their brand new exhibition “Beyond Blue” by artist Géraldine Auret.

Curated by Artistic Director Valérie Davidoff, the ‘Beyond Blue’ exhibition features works by artist Géraldine Auret in the hotel lobby from 1 July to 31 August 2025.

Géraldine Auret lives and works in Montpellier. A self-taught artist, she was initially inspired by Picasso, Matisse, Viallat and Buren in their principle of repetition. The artist was also influenced, even fascinated, by Japanese prints. She has retained certain aesthetic principles: the simplification of forms, a taste for sinuous lines, the abandonment of perspective and a love of bright colours.

The Beyond Blue collection marks a significant turning point in the artist’s career. First presented in New York in May 2024, this series has already initiated a decisive shift in Géraldine Auret’s artistic path. It embodies a new stage — that of a fully embraced affirmation, of a vibrant, accomplished pictorial mastery, and of a presence now firmly established within the contemporary art landscape. This is a manifesto exhibition, asserting her singularity on today’s art scene, where her gesture now stands as an essential and recognizable signature.

« Through this exhibition, I pursue my quest for movement, light and inner silence. With Beyond Blue, ultramarine blue becomes a living breath, an organic matter flowing between my gestures and the canvas, creating a space of resonance with the viewer, reaching where words no longer suffice. Each work is a fragment of the sea, a present moment already gone, where the motion of an ephemeral wave meets the infinity of the ocean. This series was specially conceived for the InterContinental Marseille, in an intimate dialogue with the nearby Mediterranean. Here, the sea is not something to behold: it is something to feel, to embody. It leaves the trace of a fleeting instant, whose emotion nonetheless endures within us.»

About the artist

Géraldine Auret is a contemporary painter from the south of France who exhibited her first works at the age of 17. Although she studied economics and set up two businesses, she has never stopped painting. Today, she devotes herself entirely to her art. Her style is characterised by sweeping gestures, bright colours and a desire to capture the moment. Her works convey a strong emotional charge, combining energy, movement and an intimate connection with the viewer.
