Preserving our environment
The InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu is committed to a virtuous approach to eco-responsibility via the IHG Green Engage tool.
IHG Green Engage is a system used by all hotels in the group, enabling us every day to measure and optimize energy and water consumption, reduce waste and improve our impact on the environment.
Our hotel is therefore accredited the highest level of the program (level 4), and since several years has been taking numerous other ecological measures:
The Natur’Act Charter
First initiative to mobilize economic players in favor of restoring biodiversity and adapting to climate change in the Marseille Provence area. The hotel is delighted to have signed the Natur’Act charter in October 2019, the beginning of a sincere commitment to nature!
The Green Key Label
We’re delighted to be awarded the green key label, thanks to the hard work of our teams. This is the first international sustainable tourism label for tourist accommodation and catering, and our hotel was the first establishment in Marseille to receive this distinction in 2021. Since then, we have successfully passed the audit every year.
Waste sorting and recovery
InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu sorts and recycles its waste: batteries, oils, glass, paper… but that’s not all! In collaboration with the Alchemists, we have set up a collection program, making good use of our food waste, turning into compost wich the Alchemists then use to regenerate the soil.
Battling food waste
Our chefs are committed to fighting food waste through several actions: by donating food products to the PlanB13 association since November 2023 (every Sunday unsold brunch products are immediately redistributed to people in need), or by raising awareness among our teams and the general public via participation in events like the anti-gaspi fair.
Recycling with Maison Pépite
When damaged, some of the hotel’s fabrics (curtains, uniforms…) are recycled by Maison Pépite and given a new lease of life! Maison Pépite is a brand “made in Marseille” whose accessories are crafted by women with golden hands. Based on the principle of upcycling (textile revalorization), Maison Pépite creations are limited editions that respect the environment.
Lights out on the façade
In response to the city’s appeal for energy efficiency, the InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu has been committed to nightly switching off its light of the façade at midnight since September 2022.
This new eco-friendly gesture allows us to switch off 300 LEDs and avoid emitting 80kg of CO² per month!

Towards a hotel without single-use plastic
InterContinental Marseille – Hôtel Dieu is working with BeMed association to move away from single-use plastics. As a result, the range of hygiene products in the bathrooms has been reviewed, the courtesy tray has been revamped and single-use water bottles are gradually disappearing from the hotel. If you have children, a welcome kit is available for them at the reception – without plastic, of course!

Charitable aid
Our commitment to local associations
The hotel is committed to a number of local associations, such as La Croix Rouge du Panier, for whom we have organized toy and food collections, and Le Carillon, an association that helps the homeless, with whom we organize awareness-raising workshops and to whom we give financial donations. The hotel also organizes charity events with Les Restos du Cœur, the Ligue Contre le Cancer foundation and Graine de Tournesol. These are actions that are close to our hearts, bringing together different worlds for a good cause.
Social commitment
Gender equality
Gender equality is now an obligation for companies with fewer than 250 employees.
On February 14, 2020, our hotel also signed an agreement for gender equality in the workplace, set up by Business Professional Women, an NGO working for the place of women in the corporate world. A strong commitment to advancing practices and fostering women’s fulfillment in the workplace!
