New exhibition by Gwendoline Pieters: Marseille, between sea and light

Following the success of her previous exhibition, the artist Gwendoline Pieters returns to our lobby with a new series of works dedicated to the iconic landscapes of Marseille and the Mediterranean, entitled “Marseille between sea and lights”.

The exhibition is free to visit and runs until 30 October 2026.

Through Marseille, between sea and light, the artist continues her exploration of Mediterranean light, the central theme running through her work. From Notre-Dame de la Garde to the calanques, via the Vieux-Port and the majestic architecture of the Hôtel-Dieu, each canvas reveals a sensitive vision in which colour becomes light and emotion.

Through the painstaking process of building up layers of paint, Gwendoline Pieters creates vibrant works in which the deep blues of the sea interact with the ochre hues of the cliffs and the shifting light of the Provençal sky. Her compositions, straddling the line between figuration and contemporary interpretation, invite the viewer to rediscover familiar landscapes in a new light.

This exhibition accompanies visitors throughout their journey and celebrates the dialogue between heritage, contemporary art and the Mediterranean.

About Gwendoline Pieters

Born in Provence, Gwendoline Pieters discovered her artistic calling at a very early age. After obtaining her arts A-levels in 1987, she continued her studies at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne before being invited, in 1990, to study at the Fondazione Longhi in Florence. She then enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille.

Based in Cassis, she has been developing a body of work deeply inspired by Mediterranean landscapes for over thirty years. Drawing on the colourful freedom of Fauvism, her work is characterised by a luminous palette, rich texture and an instantly recognisable pictorial style.

Her works are now held in numerous private collections, both in France and internationally. Exhibiting regularly at prestigious venues, Gwendoline Pieters pursues an artistic exploration in which light becomes the true subject of each of her canvases.
