New exhibition "Les eaux de Mars" by François-Louis Athénas

We are delighted to present the new exhibition in the lobby, ‘Les eaux de Mars’ (The Waters of Mars) by photographer and author François-Louis Athénas.

This free exhibition is open from 19 January to 31 March 2026.

François-Louis Athénas is a photographer and author who has been living and working in Marseille since 2020. He is also the owner of the Galerie des Augustines, housed in part of a 17th-century convent located at 6 Place des Augustines, next to the hotel.

Originally from Réunion Island, he has worked extensively in Africa, Asia and the Indian Ocean islands.

He has been working exclusively in traditional film photography for 30 years.

His studio is located in Marseille, at 45 Boulevard de La Libération, where he continues to use a traditional approach to photography.

Les eaux de Mars

“A step, a stone, a path that winds its way. A remnant of a root, it’s a little lonely.
It’s a shard of glass, it’s life, the sun…”

As Georges Moustaki’s song says, life and poetry in all seasons can be found along the streets and paths. In Marseille, they all lead to the sea.

This exhibition takes us on a daily, poetic stroll, recounting the intimate connection between Marseille and the sea that borders it, the Mediterranean.

The prints on display are originals by the author, on traditional Bergger and Ilford baryta silver paper. They are signed and numbered from 1 to 30.
